Pra Gira Girar
(Brazil / Amor in Sound)
Produced by Mario Caldato Jr and Kassin, the 1973 classic returns in a new version.
The project Pra Gira Girar celebrates the work of the Bahian trio Os Tincoãs, who released four albums between the 1960s and 70s. In an interview with O Globo in 2017, Mateus Aleluia reflected that “time is what time itself determines,” revealing the paths taken by the group he co-founded. Time also brought about a certain dormancy of the trio’s legacy. And yet, it is time itself that now stirs those memories through musicians who, influenced by the work of the Cachoeira trio, are exploring new directions for the Afro-Baroque vision shaped by Mateus Aleluia, Dadinho, and their companions.
It was in this spirit that Alan de Deus, Alvaro Lancellotti, Michele Leal, and Zé Manoel came together to rediscover new possibilities for the founding chant of Os Tincoãs. Without treating Afro-Brazilian music as exotic or reducing it to research material, they immersed themselves in vocal studies to revisit the group’s repertoire, reconstructing arrangements of remarkable beauty. Joining them was Pedro Costa (guitar), who rearranged each of the songs with respect for the Bahian trio’s original creations while adding the delicacy of his guitar, thus signing the project’s musical direction.
